Top five gifts in 2021 for friends and family who struggle to sleep

Updated: Jan 28, 2021

Many people are suffering from sleeping problems and a gift to help them sleep can be a really lovely way to show that you care about their wellbeing. From a simple pillow spray, to an online yoga nidra course, the latest gadget or 1-2-1 sleep coaching, there is something out there for everyone.

Here are my top 5 gifts for 2021 for your friends and family who struggle to sleep.

1. Moonbird - 59 euros

This beautifully designed gadget helps you relax and remember to breathe! Breath is essential to calming our nervous system and strengthening the vagus, which activates the parasympathetic nervous system and helps your body relax, which is essential for getting a good night’s sleep.

This product isn’t available immediately - estimated delivery time is February 2021 - BUT you’ll be an early adopter and supporting an exciting new Belgian start-up.

2. Fast Asleep, Wide Awake by Dr. Nerina Ramlakhan - 11.68 euros

Recently I’ve been speaking to Dr. Nerina - a leading expert in the UK - about her approach and have been learning so much from her. Her second book “Fast asleep, wide awake” gives us an insight into her philosophy on sleep as well as very practical framework for finding restorative sleep and vibrant energy.

Yes, we need to fix our sleep hygiene and habits to recover from exhaustion and depletion, but then starts what she called the “Real Work” of getting to the bottom of where the sleeping issue comes from and how to find pure sleep and, perhaps what we all want, abundant energy.

There is a lot in the book that resonates with me and my approach. It’s an original take on sleep, combining Eastern and Western approaches, and a comforting, inspiring read!

3. Yoga Nidra Sleep Course - £99.00

Yoga nidra was the foundation of my recovery from insomnia and is core to my approach today, so I can fully recommend a course in yoga nidra for sleep to anyone with a sleeping problem. Yoga nidra helps you recover from the exhaustion that comes with sleep deprivation and gives you a tool to effectively re-wire your mind and body for deep restful sleep.

This in-depth course by two of the most experienced and recognised yoga nidra teachers in the UK, takes people step-by-step through the process of learning how to sleep soundly again. It offers dozens of guided meditations to make the journey easier and more enjoyable! This gift would be particularly suitable to anyone who is already into yoga or meditation.

4. Rest and Prepare for Bed by Neals’ Yard - £20.00

People who struggle to sleep may be fed up with pillow sprays… but maybe not! As a sleep coach, I believe that evening rituals are important. They may not solve the trickiest of sleeping problems but they can, and do, soothe frazzled nerves, bringing us comfort when we need it.

Although I rarely have a problem sleeping these days, in my own routine I enjoy using quality products that facilitate rest and sleep and there is nothing better than an eye mask and pillow spray for a good night’s sleep or a restorative yoga nidra practice.

For people who have been struggling with their sleep for a while and have tried every gadget, book and course out there, there is sleep coaching. Sleep coaching offers a holistic, personalised and systematic approach to overcoming sleeping problems. I also integrate yoga nidra in my sleep coaching, which helps my clients recover from exhaustion and restore their energy, before we move onto explore other areas of life that might be impacting their ability to sleep.

In my Christmas Gift package I include a beautiful Rituals eye pillow and yoga nidra audio. My clients see improvements in their sleep in just one or two sessions, so this is a gift that will be remembered forever!
